VI Systems’ VCSEL reaches 200 Gbps PAM-4 over 100 meter

VI Systems announces the successful result of a single lane 200 Gbps high speed data transmission experiment with their fiber coupled test 850 nm VCSEL module over a distance of up to 100 meter of 50/125 um multimode fiber. The transmission experiment by one of the leading telecom network system companies shows the data transmission capabilities with the use of digital signal processing (DSP) functions including timing recovery (TR), partial response (PR), noise cancellation (NC) and maximum likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE). The selected modulation format is a four level Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM-4). The full description of the experiment is available in the IEEE Photonics Technology Letters

VI Systems offers fiber coupled VCSEL and photodetector modules for the development of the next generation of optical interconnects. Four different wavelengths for short wavelength division multiplexing (SWDM) at 850 nm / 880 nm / 910 nm and 940 nm are available.
