VI Systems and Munich Instruments demo 100 Gbit/s BERT with TOSA/ROSA

VI Systems and Munich Instruments will present a high speed test setup life demo featuring a 28 Gbit/s per channel over multimode fiber. The new 4-channel Bit Error Rate Tester C-BERT of Munich Instruments will be used to analyze a data stream of 28 Gbit/s from the 850nm VCSEL transmitter optical subassembly (TOSA) to the receiver optical subassembly (ROSA). The test setup will be presented at the European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC) from September 22-24, 2014.

BERLIN, Germany, Sep 16, 2014

VI Systems GmbH, a leader in ultra-high speed components for data communications and Munich-Instruments GmbH, a company which designs and manufactures high-speed Bit-Error-Rate test instruments for 100 Gbit/s Ethernet applications in Germany will demonstrate a test setup to analyze a 28 Gbit/s per channel data stream. The C-BERT Bit Error Rate Tester product family offered by Munich Systems provides fast and effective 100 Gbit Ethernet testing. It features a full BERT eye scan diagram of four 28 Gb/s channels. The test device is the world’s first 100G BERT with optical modulated outputs for ROSA testing.

VI Systems provides the multimode fiber coupled 850nm VCSEL transmitter optical subassembly (TOSA) with the part number T40-850 and the fiber coupled receiver optical subassembly (ROSA) with the number R40-850 which are designed to operate at data rates of up to 40 Gbit/s. The short reach components for data applications feature a very low power consumption of 170mW for the complete link at 28 Gbit/s.

The demonstration will be presented in the booth of Munich Instruments, booth #167, on the top of the rotunde Lerins, Palais des Festival, during the European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC) in Cannes, France from September 22 – 24, 2014.
