VI Systems will demonstrate 120 Gbit/s 4-PAM 850nm VCSEL data transmission achieved together with TU Berlin Mixed Signal Group at ECOC 2019 in Dublin. This record data rate was achieved with a new generation of 850 nm VCSELs with ~30 GHz bandwidth. VI Systems will present at SPb-POEM in Saint Petersburg, Russia. During the 4-day conference at the National Research Academic University in Saint Petersburg, VI Systems will present a technology presentation. The title is "Quantum Dot Heterostructures for Semiconductor Devices". The conference programme incorporates symposia covering a broad range of subjects in Photonic, Optoelectronic, and Electronic Materials which creates an excellent platform to academia and industry delegates to build up national and international collaborative networks, exchange experiences and benefit from peer support in the emerging fields of Wearable and Printed (Opto)Electronics, CMOS Photonics, Quantum Computing, Artificial Intelligence, OptoGenetics, Smart Coatings and Thin Films.

The US patent office awarded two critical patents to VI Systems. The patents cover applications in datacom, sensing and high-power high-brightness VCSEL array applications: 1. OPTOELECTRONIC DEVICE WITH RESONANT SUPPRESSION OF HIGH ORDER OPTICAL MODES AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME. 2. OPTOELECTRONIC DEVICE WITH ENHANCED LATERAL LEAKAGE OF HIGH ORDER TRANSVERSE OPTICAL MODES INTO ALLOY–INTERMIXED REGIONS AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME. The inventions facilitate the realization of single mode devices at large oxide-confined and/or impurity-intermixing defined aperture diameters and enable on-chip coherently-coupled VCSEL arrays without using of external mirrors. 2D beam steering is enabled when VCSELs or blocks of VCSELs are individually addressable. The grant of the patents provides further recognition of the quality of the innovation being carried out by VI Systems’ team.
